Stirling Generator vs Gas Generator

A practical comparison of external-heat Stirling generation and conventional fuel-powered generators.

How they differ

A conventional portable generator usually burns fuel internally to drive an engine coupled to an alternator. A Stirling system receives heat externally and can in principle accept varied heat sources if engineered for them.

What to compare

Look at output, startup behavior, fuel or heat availability, noise, emissions at the heat source, maintenance, portability and cost.
